School update

For those of you who have not heard, we took Andrew out of preschool recently. We had him at a great school (that was definitely not the problem). I was the one having the problem. I had a problem sending my son off to school for 10 hours a week. He is only 3 and I only have him at home for 18 years and I want to make the most of these years.

We have decided to home-school Andrew for now. You may think I am crazy, or you may fear that Andrew will not be socialized (that is what everyone thinks about home-schooled kids). I have my son involved with other children almost every day. We have playdates with kids his age & I meet once a week with another home-schooling mom (who has boys). This is not a forever decision, it is just a 'for now' decision. I don't even know what I am going to do about Kindergarden yet. We are taking this new adventure one day at a time.

Andrew LOVES doing school at home! He asks me almost everyday, "Are we doing school today, Mommy?" We do school just two mornings a week and we are just focusing on our letters, numbers, shapes & colors right now. I am trying to do a lot of hands on projects and I have a dear friend (who teaches PreK 4 in the public school system) helping me stay on track! We are learning the children's catechism too! So far we are really enjoying school at home!

I will keep you updated on our journey. Please pray that I would have patience as I teach Andrew and that he would continue to thrive in this setting!

Here are some pictures of our first day of doing school at home!
We turned our kitchen nook area into a little school room. It is cute!

I have the most adorable student in my class! :)

Awww, Em! I am so behind in reading blogs. But, I just came across this and am so excited for you and Andrew! I LOVE your "school room"!!! So incredibly cute! Reminds me our our school nook in seminary, but mine never looked this good!
